Another day with good weather brought out 9 hikers and 2 dogs for our Round the Palace jaunt. We were happy to have a couple new members, one of whom will be around for 2 years. All went as planned, meaning we didn’t get lost nor lose anybody, and nobody was injured. With the help of observant members we saw some pretty flowers and mushrooms and a tiny frog and a stick insect. The trail alongside the palace fence is still problematic, steep wit h rocks, heavy mud, bob-wire and continuing work with its equipment, but the old trail down from it to the dirt track is still intact. The other observation is that the nature trail from the cave down is quite neglected. At least 3 trees down over the trail with their tangled branches have imposed confusing new tracks around them, and the small bridge across the stream is no longer there. These are the things which are hard to anticipate and make the hike a bit adventuresome.
