This hike requires a reasonable level of fitness.
There is another less strenuous hike on Sunday 8th July.
This will be a hike in the mountains east of Doi Saket. The hike starts from road 1252 and we will hike up a ridge which leads to the east in the direction of Doi Lanka Luang. However, we won’t get that far today. The idea is that we follow the track up for about 2 hours. How far we get depends on our speed and how often we stop to catch a breath or to take photo’s of the valleys below us. When we have walked for 2 hours we will stop and have a lunch break while enjoying the views. Then we turn around and go down the same way back again.
Some parts of the trail are a bit steep. At one point we will have to walk over a narrow ridge with steep drops on both sides. During the first half of the hike (the first two hours) we will be constantly going uphill. The hike starts at an elevation of about 1100 meters and we expect to reach at least 1600 meters by the time we turn around. After lunch it is all the way downhill, which will probably go a bit faster.
Our meeting point today will be in Doi Saket (see below). From there we will still have to drive about 38 km to reach the starting point of the hike.
If you want to join
Just turn up at the meeting place on the day. There is no need to let us know you are coming unless you are coming in a big group.
We will meet at 8:00 AM sharp at the fuel station near Doi Saket on road 118. It is just 200 meter after the road which leads into Doi Saket.
Geo-coordinates of the fuel station: Latitude 18.873292 Longitude 99.133483
At the meeting place we will squeeze in the available cars and then drive to the start point of the hike (about 40 minutes driving).
Here is a picture of the meeting point (fuel station) near Doi Saket.
And the next picture shows how we will drive from the meeting point to where we start the hike:
And this map shows the track we will be hiking:
And here are some photo’s of the hike area (3 July):
If you share a car with somebody else please contribute a few Baht for the fuel.
