We had 9 hikers for this beautiful jaunt. The song tao cost round trip was 180 baht each, not bad considering only 8 of us used it and one drove up. Apparently some hikers were scared away by the threat of the steep uphill, and it was that, but our group seemed to enjoy the challenge and especially the views.
The weather was decidedly cool, so no sweat, and clear enough with clouds and a constant breeze. We followed the hike plan to a tee other than spending longer at the coffee shop than I’d envisioned. (It was like pulling hens’ teeth to get the group moving again. A very social group with lots of energy and humor!) We had many stops as we climbed the north face o f Doi Pui, sometimes to catch our breath and sometimes to regroup for another photo. The Turk’s Cap lilies were in bloom, now identified as lilium nepalensia. We were back at the check point, our starting and ending point about 1pm, earlier than I’d arranged for the driver to pick us up and no signal to call him, and then we had to take shelter in the old guard house there as it began to rain. He was there at 2 on the dot to pick us up. Hurray! Janet
