Here is a more challenging hike for those who have been waiting for one.
We will meet at the end of Suthep Rd. just before the intersection where the road narrows and starts up hill. Be there, on the right side of the road at 8:20 for an 8:30 start. If some are interested in doing this 4½ hour hike instead of the rather short Wat Palad walk that Janet’s leading, we’ll organize cars to drive to Ban Khun Chang Khian, arriving there a bit before 10am. We park here, then walk back to the Ban Khun Chang Khian tunoff and turn right.
We continue down past the turnoff to the Queen’s Botanic Gardens until we see a smaller signposted vehicle track to the right. Enter a beautiful valley with fruit trees and wonderful views, descending further. Instead of continuing to another road back to Baan Khun Chang Kien, we save an hour by taking a rough shortcut to that road then start our ascent along it. Mainly a steady slog up with two steep shortcuts interspersed, to arrive back at the village.
This is a delightful walk, about 7Km in length, dropping then rising 500m.
