Mahidol Falls

This is a medium-strength hike of only around 7-8 kms roundtrip, but with over 500m of often quite steep altitude gain and then the same descent. A reasonable level of fitness and agility is required. We will take it at a moderate pace, probably taking around 4 hours in total, including snack break.

We will :

  • leave from Wang Bua Ban at 08:00 and hike quite steeply up for 2 hours
  • scramble down a very short, but very steep, incline to the waterfall.
  • have a snack and return the same way (or option via Chang Khian waterfall?)

If you want to join

Just turn up at the meeting place on the day. There is no need to let us know you are coming. Groups and dogs cannot be accommodated.

Meeting Time and Place

We will meet at 07.50 a.m in the car park by Wang Bua Ban.

  • Head out from the moat NW towards Doi Suthep on Huay Kaew Rd.
  • Pass the regular arboretum/fitness park meeting place and continue uphill past the zoo, Khruba Srivichai statue, Wat Srisoda and the Huay Kaew Checkpoint.
  • WBB car park is about 2.1 kms after the arboretum car park.
  • Park on the left just after the big right-hand bend, by the large Night Safari advertising billboard/hoarding.
  • Drivers, please look out for fellow hikers hitching a lift from the arboretum.

Please bring :

  • at least 2 litres of water/rehydration drink, and energy snacks
  • good footwear, hat, mozzie repellant and sunblock
  • trekking pole or stick recommended for steep uphills and descents
  • bring your sense of balance with you
  • lots of energy, enthusiasm and good humour

  1. I should add that there are a couple of places with a very narrow path with steep drop on one side, and also one big drop with a couple of planks of rotting wood to cross it. Bring your sense of balance with you. 🙂 Mike
