We had a good turn-out for the Op Khan hike, 17 in all, and of those 5 were Thai. The plan was to hike along the gorge as far as possible before climbing up to a higher trail in order to get past the narrow section of the gorge and the bend in the river, but after a short ways the leader decided it was too hot and hard going on the rocks, so led the group up into the shade. It was nice to have the addition of a couple handrails next to decaying bridges over the ravines constructed by Pam during the Thursday exploration. We stopped to regroup rather often, but still made good time, reaching the lunch destination in about 1.5 hours. After a leisurely lunch on a large rock by the river, we explored far up the river as we could do easily, and then returned on the high circular route which includes a couple scrambles up steep banks. All the hikers were good sports about this and enjoyed the challenge. All in all it was a very good hike and an enthusiastic group of hikers. We returned to the park office area before 1pm and went up to the restaurant for refreshments.
