This is an easy to moderate hike of approx 6 km. We will meet at the arboretum at 7:50 for an 8am start and either carpool or take song-tao up to the starting point (the small parking area in front of the nature trail down to the hermit’s cave). We will cross the road and follow the horse coral trail to the end, where we take a small trail up to the university’s weather research area and continue on up to a trail which runs at right angles to it, and follow that for a way. All of the trails are well shaded and easy to follow, though footing may be tricky in places. Turning off this trail onto a side track will bring us back down to the square water catchment area which looks like a horse coral. We will stop to eat our pack lunch here before starting back. The return route is mostly the same as the way in, but we will take a detour which is a bit of a shortcut and involves a fairly steep leaf-covered trail.
