Twenty two people managed to follow the complicated meeting instructions and start the hike from Mueang On cave hill more or less on time. (Didn’t we start with 23? Anyone lost?). We welcomed at least 8 newbies from five different countries, and hikers ranged in age from 9 to nearer 79. A nice friendly group.
The supposed leader, well-hidden at the back, only got lost 2 or 3 times but various ‘assistants’ managed to find him. Eventually. It was hot along the ridge in the middle of the day, but we made good time over the 9-11 kms routes (we split into two groups after lunch, later three near the end) and even the slower group made it to the hot springs swimming pool in less than 5 hours. Though nobody felt like visiting the cave or monkeys afterwards. Will be good to repeat this new route in the cool season, but then the hot springs will be busier than today. Altitude gain between 450 and 617, depending on which GPS you choose to believe.
Big thanks to a large cast of explorers, map/trail providers, drivers and photographers, especially Chan, Pam, PT & Koi, Andrew, JB, Janet and Anders. All photos from Chan. (Other pool photos are suppressed pending permission.)
