Hike suitable for the more agile as there are some steep down parts.
Starting in two places (early and late start) to suit most people.
8.00am Start at the beginning of the Pilgrims trail (top of Suthep Road, turn right following sign to Channel 7 mast, meeting at the barrier to the mast). This is a brutal hike up the Pilgrims trail and unless you are really fit, you won’t be able to make it. I expect only me on this part of the hike (one hour).
9.10am Start at the Wat Doi Suthep stairway (I’ll be wearing a Red football shirt by the left hand dragon). Downhill almost all the way. We will pass at least ten large waterfalls (including Sai Yoy, Monthathon, Huay Keow) on the way down to the Huey Keow Arbouretum (2hours 30 minutes).
Just to repeat, the upward hike is brutal, which is why I expect to be doing it on my own. The downhill section starting at 9:10 is easy, but you do need some level of agility as there are a few steep scrambles down. It is extremely pretty all the way. Lots of places to cool off. If you are just doing the downhill section, get the songtaw up to Wat Doi Suthep, leave your m/c in the Arbouretum car park.
Full length hike 12Km 3hours 30 minutes, downhill only hike 8Km 2 hours 30 minutes.
