Our main group met at the arboretum as planned and left for the starting point by song tao shortly after 8am. At the Khun Chang Khian check point several other hikers were waiting, which brought our total to 20. The air was nice and cool up there as we set out up towards the top of Doi Pui, going under, over and around the barrier. From there all went just as planned and soon we were at the Queen sala area for a group photo.
After a short break we did the tricky descent of the north face of Doi Pui, enjoying the beautiful views and admiring the Turk’s caps in full bloom.
After all had made it safely down, we continued to the coffee shop. At first our group was the only one there. Coffee now costs 40 baht, but we were each given 3 biscuits instead of the usual 2. The hike on the road back to the starting point is more uphill than down, but no one complained about walking on a paved road. Only a few leeches were see all day, and none of them caused any problems.
Our very nice driver waited for us at the finish, and we were back right on time, having taken 3 1/2 hours including our leisurely break at the coffee shop. He even made an extra stop for us on the way down at the view point over Baan Doi Pui.
