Trip report Sunday 14 September.
After a quick drive from the busy Chiang Mai,we arrived at the calm countryside near Huay Lan reservoir.
We parked our vehicles at the lovely boutique resort “ Baanpong Lodge”. At the parking area it was some fuss about how many hikers it was today, 23? 24? 25? I think we agreed about 24.
We started to hike up to the dam, and as usual in this area our 2 four legged guides joined us.
We had a nice stroll up to the dam, but here the tuff ridge hike started. The trail was not so clear, and some passages were as “rocky mountain”. But the ridge offered many flat areas, and here we regrouped and got back our energy.
After about 1 hour, at the top “Mon Packchi’ (658 M) we took our well-deserved long snack break.
From here we had downhill at the ridge some real rocky areas, but the group managed to jump on the rocks.
Wonderful views, to the east the lake, and to the west the valley.
Next stop was at the fantastic viewpoint towards San Kamphaeng Valley. Below us we had the big golf course “Alpina “.
We continued to follow the ridge downhill, and soon we reached the jungle. It was very hot, but the area was quite shady, so the heat was acceptable. Now we followed the foot of our ridge back to the lake area , but near the lake Janet had an incident, she fell down and scratched her forehead and lips… But after some nursing from the hikers she was fit for fight again.
Until now we had managed to keep the group together, but now we splitted up under the last km, back to the resort.
Finally at the resort we had a nice afternoon with some swimming, eating and drinking (cold beers)…
Thanks all for a wonderful day together!!
And now a bonus section for our mushroom lovers:
