Seven hardy hikers met outside Central Festival, though one soon disappeared after a phone call, so six shared one car and a motorcycle out to the trailhead, where the departed hiker was replaced by an independent biker hiker.
The nice small group enjoyed the cool morning hike through the coffee plantations, along and across (many times) the stream and then steeply up onto the ridges and plateaus of the Doi Lanka massif, where the views were clear and spectacular. It was even cool enough to enjoy some Kendal Mint Cake at a brief panoramic photo stop atop the cliffs.
Lunch was taken at the summit chedi of Doi Lanka Noi and a brief search for the fabled alternative route down from the peak again drew a blank so it was back to the steep goat track, the undulating ridge, and then the long slippery slope, where a few, not unexpected, slips were experienced. Hope the ankle gets better soon, Khun M.
10.9 kms, up/down 888m, in 6 hours 15 mins. Thanks to all for making it a great day.
