There were 25 of us on this hike, including the 3 who spent the time exploring and only joined the group for the picnic lunch and at the end for the “cool off” in the river and refreshments at a restaurant. They reported that there is a good trail on the other side of the river which will be good for another hike in the future.
When we came down to the river and chose our picnic spot, we found a group of water buffalo who thought we had intruded on their ground.
The trail was really in awful condition, from my perspective. There were lots of thorny bushes which scratched us and bamboo down over the trail, which completely blocked the trail at one point so that we could not use the steps cut for the descent and had to slip and slide down. But no one complained, and in fact I heard only praise for a “good hike”.
The shared picnic lunch was great fun beside the beautiful river, a special treat for those who had never been in the gorge before. By the time we returned to the starting point we were feeling very warm, and most of the hikers enjoyed going into the river either part way or all the way!
Thanks to all of the hikers for your energy and humor, and for keeping the leader happy.
