A beautiful day for a walk around Huay Tung Tao as well as a circular hike to the waterfall! There were 22 eager hikers gathered at the small parking lot plus one who made it just in time. We walked around the lake, past the standing Buddha, to the trail head and up to the waterfall in a clockwise direction. The leader took a couple of wrong turns, followed by at least some of the group, but we all managed to meet up on the right trail again.
And so we spent a pleasant snack break at the waterfall before heading back, via the army training area, to the road. Seven hikers left us to go back while the remaining 16 continued around the lake (also in a clockwise direction) to restaurant no. 2, arriving about noon, where we enjoyed a leisurely meal.
Only 6 of us actually walked back to the parking lot while 10 “cheated” by hitching a ride back.
No one kept track of the distance, elevation gain or time. We talked a lot, watched for wildlife and had a good New Year hike. Perhaps doing everything in a clockwise direction was a good way to start the new year.
