15/01/18_Heinenken Ridge

This hike comes courtesy of Hein who was back from Bangladesh for a short time and introduced it to us.  The group has hiked this several years ago.

This hike starts near a Royal Project Agricultural Station north of Doi Saket.  The hike will follow an east-west ridge line that eventually turns to the south.  We will hike for about 2 hours and then turn around and come back the way we came.  If the weather is clear, there will be good views of the surrounding mountains (Doi Lanka Luang, the roller coaster ridge, Pi Pannan).  The elevation at the beginning of the hike is around 1100 meters and the highest point where we will be is around 1550 meters for a total elevation gain of approximately 450 meters.  The roundtrip distance is about 6.0 km.  This hike is mainly uphill going and we would rate it moderate for very fit hikers as there are steep dropoffs and the narrow path is dry with leaves and can be slippery.  It is not recommended for children or those uncomfortable with heights.  Hiking poles/sticks are recommended for this hike.

After the hike, you can join us for the best pizza in the area at Pizza Plus in Doi Saket.

Hike leaders: Cheryl and Marc

If you want to join:  Just turn up at the meeting place on the day and on time. We cannot accommodate groups.

 Meeting point:

We will meet at 08:00 am on Route 118 North towards Chiang Rai at the Bang Jak Gas station (with the leaf logo).  It is on the left side opposite the turnoff for Doi Saket town.  We will drive about 35 km to the beginning of the hike.

Bring :

.Around 1.5-2 liters of water or more, snacks, and fruit as you wish.

.Please contribute 100 baht to your driver for fuel costs, if car-sharing.

.Good footwear etc. hat, insect repellent, sun-block and rain gear. Hiking poles/sticks are recommended.

.Energy, enthusiasm and a good sense of humour.

  1. Meeting point is far without a car. Anyone driving from closer to the moat I could catch a ride with?

  2. My first time hiking with this group. Staying at the Grand Napat – no car – any help please?

  3. Hi Duane, Dale & other carless hikers, the hike leaders and the hike-description poster are all out of town for a few days. In the past when we’ve hiked out this direction we’ve asked drivers to look out for hitching hikers as they pass Central Festival Mall, on the H.118 side (not Superhighway, H.11) opposite the Isuzu showroom about 20-30 minutes before the meeting time. Perhaps I can suggest that people do the same this time? No lift guaranteed though, I’m afraid. Chok dee na!

  4. If anyone lives in the vicinity of Nimmanhamin Road and needs a lift to Cheryl/Marc’s hike I will be leaving from the 7/11 outlet (opposite Salad Concept) on Nimmanhamin road at 7.10AM.

  5. Thanx SRR
I will be at the 7/11 before 7:10
