26 enthusiastic hikers turned up at the meeting point on Route 118, some arrived by their own transportation, others by songthaew, all looking forward to hiking in a new area. After we consolidated into minimum number of vehicles, we convoyed to the starting point by the Agricultural Station. The day was cool and the trail was dry. The coffee berries had been picked since last week’s reconnaissance hike.
Five hikers decided to relax at a beautiful vantage point about halfway up the trail. The rest continued on and when we reached an upper plateau (at about 1570 meters according to one hiker’s GPS), the group decided to turn around and work their way back down. Their fears that the trail would be slippery were dispelled as we made it down rather quickly for a total hike time of only 3 hours.
Hikers taking a break on hillside
Although there was a bit of haze and the skies were not blue, all the hikers enjoyed the trail with the mountains all around them. One hiker even said she overcame her fear of heights on this trail!
About 20 of the hikers convoyed once again to Pizza Plus, where we ate pizza and sat and talked and enjoyed ourselves for a couple of hours.
Thanks everyone for coming out – it was a great day!
