Trip report Sunday 8 March

At the start point

At the start point

28 hikers started their hike from the parking lot below Doi Suthep Temple. The weather was very nice this day, blue sky and a pleasant temperature.
We walked up to the first Christian Meditation center on a steep concrete road. From here further on down south in the jungle on overgrown trails. But we managed to keep the big group together, and did not lost any trails or hikers.

After an hour we reached the big mountain bike trail and had an easy walk downhill east. Now we could see that the blue sky was just up here. Smoke was like a lid over the valley.

Soon we left the big trail, and hiked again on a small path, up to Sirindhom Observatory. We had a short snack break here before the big climbing up on the ridge.

We gained elevation from 866 m up to 1019 m at a distance of 879 m. A though one, but everyone managed it with a smile. We rested a bit at the high point before we continued through the jungle down to the second Christian Meditation Center.

Wow! We did it!

From here it was an easy walk on a concrete road back to our start point. We made a short detour up to a beautiful viewpoint, a temple ruin. If the weather is good, you will have a fantastic view down to Chiang Mai airport, but now was the smoke like a lid, and we did not see anything. We had a discussion about lunch. Yes or no? Maybe it was a bit to early for that? After some bickering, the decision was to have a first lunch here and a second at the restaurant at the car park.

After a 20 minutes’ walk on the road, we reached the restaurant. Everyone was hungry again…

Thanks all for a short but nice hike!
