15/03/29_Trip Report_Mae Hauw Circular Hike

17 hikers arrived at our meeting point for this hike on Sunday morning. We shared cars and were then driving for about an hour to our starting point at the Mae Huaw Forest Protection District.

At 8:35 AM we started our hike, walking slowly uphill. The temperature was still quite comfortable, but almost no leaves were left on the branches of the trees , so we had not too much shadow.

After hiking for around 1 hour, we arrived at the 4-Way Junction where we stopped for a short break .

Afterwards we continued to walk uphill and we discovered a lot of butterfly cocoons hanging on the leaves of some trees , which gave us the opportunity to stop for taking pictures .

After around 2 hours, we stopped for a short snack break and had still to walk uphill for another 30 minutes before we could start to walk downhill. Shortly after we commenced to walk down, we saw a big green snake which was obviously killed by somebody not long before we arrived in the area.

At around noon , we stopped for our lunch break , but as we were attacked by a swarm of flies , we were forced to cut down our rest.

Afterwards we continued to walk downhill soon realizing that a thunderstorm was approaching . For that reason we started to walk faster and arrived at our vehicles just at the time when it started raining, which made us jump in our cars and drive off.

Total time of the hike : 5 hours 15 minutes.

  1. Looks like one of the green pit viper species (Trimeresurus). Obviously someone chopped its head off.

  2. Great hike as usual Pam. I have a question. I have a lot of bites or something on my legs that have spread. Did anybody else have any trouble like this? I don’t know if this happened on the hike or at my house but I’m trying to figure it out. Thanks!
