Trip Report Sunday 26 April. The long hike.
A hike in the rain with leeches, lizards, toads and centipedes.
At the gathering in Ban Hmong Doi Pui , we were divided into two groups. The shorter hike with 29 hikers and the longer one with 8 hikers.
We walked up through the village and passed the beautiful village garden.
After 1 hour and 20 minutes we reached “Buddha Footprint”. Unfortunately we had to imagine the fantastic views, because the rain hung in the air and a fog swept over the mountains.
We continued, and soon we hiked up on the next ridge, the ridge on the opposite side of Doi Pui. Here we could see the impressive mountain trough the mist.
We walked on a wide fire breaker with huge pine trees, to the end of the ridge. Now started the rain….for the moment just a light one. We hiked down on a very steep fire breaker, down to a dirt road in a farmer area.
Luckily for us, we found a good shelter for our lunch break, because soon started the heavy rain. But after 10 minutes it stopped, and we were able to continue.
The rain had brought out the wildlife, and we saw some beautiful lizards and a lot of big toads.
The idea was to bypass Buddha Footprint on a trail a bit lower down, but all the leeches stopped us from that plan.
Soon we were back in the village, but not a glimpse of the other group. We assumed that they had already gone home. After our lunch and some beers we closed the case and also went back home.
Despite the rain we’re all happy with the hike. The rain brought out some animals we usually do not see on a hike.
