15/05/03_ Trip report_Joe’s loop

Trip report,the short hike.
At the meeting point, we were divided into two groups. 11 hikers drove out to the start point for the shorter hike, a small village named Ban Mae Khi, situated east of Mon Cham, at an altitude of 930 meters.

The morning was still cool when we started to walk up through the agriculture area.

The farmers were already busy. One group cleaned their carrot harvest in the river.

We continued uphill on a small dirt road in the open landscape. Luckily for us it was still the cool morning. Soon we entered the jungle and continued the hike up on a shady trail on the first ridge.
At an elevation of 1150 m, we reached at the top of this ridge. From here we started to hike west on the next one,on an overgrown vehicle track.
At our exploration hike last week, we had to pass a barbed wire area, but we found a gap without the barbed wire. Unfortunately I did not remembered a wire hidden in the grass. In full speed I walked now into this wire and cut my leg badly. Everyone tried to help me to stop the bleeding. Normal bandage did not help. Luckily for me Pam found some healing herbs that made the job. With assistance from Ms. Y , she made a paste to put on the wound. And the bleeding was stopped!

After this incident we hiked down to a farmer area with orange trees. Here we had a short snack break. After our break we continued upon a farmer road. But soon we entered a jungle trail again.

At our lunch break Mr. S. tried to tempt us with some snacks. “Durian Toffee”. His attempt failure, and only Ms.Y seemed appreciate the offer.

After our lunch we had an easy hike on a ridge back to the valley we started from.
On the way I lost the trail for a moment, and was totally disorientated. This behavior forced Mr. S. to open and close this gate several times

We found our trail again, and continued the hike along a small river. Some hikers took the opportunity to cool down a bit.

Now we were back in the morning valley. I bit hot now, but suddenly the sky was filled with clouds, which protected us from the burning sun.

After the hike we drove up to one of the restaurant in the area. We had just got our food, and then suddenly Mike’s group arrived from their long hike.
