4. Last week's destination, Doi Mot, over Chiang Rai road

Cool breezes and high-altitude (up to 1,804m) ridge-top views in the Doi Lanka area but also quite a lot of up- and down-hill, though not as steep or long as last week’s hike.   About 9 kms in about 6 hours, up 600m/down 900m. A few narrow trail sections above steep drops and a few short steep slippery-leaf sections, but mostly clear trails.

We will carshare out to the 1252 road, leaving at least one vehicle at the hike end point, and then starting the hike from the carpark at Wat Kio Tam (Kham in roman script on map) at over 1,100m, and where clean toilets are available. See green trail in map above. Seats in cars cannot be guaranteed. No groups please.

Meeting place:  Meet at Bangjak Petrol Station (18º 52.408′ N, 99º 8.040′ E) on H.118 to Chiangrai, just after the junction with H.1007 into Doi Saket (see map below; click to enlarge) town at 07.30. There will be be a ‘pre-meet’ at the usual place in front of CenFes (opposite Isuzu, 18º 48.313′ N, 99º 1.197′ E) on the same road at 07.00 for those who need transport and those who have room for passengers.

  1. Do we need to RSVP somewhere for this sundays hike?
    Alexa

    • Hi Alexa, no – just turn up at the meeting place. But many car-driving hikers are out of town now so if you can bring a car that will be good! Seats are not guaranteed.

      • Okay thanks Mike. Im from out of town and dont have a car- but hopefully theres room! Thanks

        Alexa

      • Only 2-3 cars confirmed as coming so far, so likely to be only room for about 3-4 vehicle-less hikers. Severe shortage of drivers at the moment, but fingers crossed.

  2. Hello,

What type of leech protection do we need? Are long pants enough? Or should we wear long socks over the outside of our pants?

We do no have leech socks.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    • In fact we saw no leeches in the area while exploring on Weds but long socks or some mozzie repellents often work well.

  3. In response to a few more comments, not all published, the hike will go ahead if there’s not too much rain and we won’t know if there are enough seats for all until we see how many people come. Take a chance, but be ready for possible disappointment. C’est la vie!
