A local hike this Sunday, starting at Wang Bua Ban and climbing up to 5-ways junction, with a side trip to the hidden waterfall, if we can find it. The first part of the hike will be continuously uphill for at least two to three hours, some of it quite steep, starting at about 400m elevation and finishing at about 1,200m, so a challenging 800m (2,600+ ft) elevation gain. (Yes, Mike’s back.) After spending some time near the waterfall and lunch, perhaps at 5-ways junction, the final part of the hike will be continuously downhill, probably on slippery mud and green rocks at times. The hike will probably take at least 5-6 hours in total, depending on weather and underfoot conditions as well as group abilities.
As rain is almost as likely as sweat, if you wish to share transport, please bring a change of shirt/clothes for after the hike. Some hikers may wish to just walk back down to the arboretum meeting point from Wang Bua Ban, if they have enough energy left over, adding about 20 minutes on to the hike time.
Hike Leader: Mike
If you want to join:
Just turn up at the meeting place on the day, on time. There is no need to let us know you are coming. We cannot accommodate groups. Please don’t be late as we leave the meeting point on time. If it rains, we will get wet.
We will meet at 07.20 am by the arboretum (exercise park) just before the zoo entrance near the top end of Huay Kaew Rd for an 07.30 am start (see map below). We will then share vehicles up the hill for 10 minutes to our hike starting point at Wang Bua Ban, to reduce the uphill effort needed. Tough guys/gals can meet 30 mins earlier and walk up via Huay Kaew waterfall.
