16/02/28 – Buddha footprint(s)

Buddha Foorprint

This Sunday we will have two high altitude circular hikes beginning/ending at the Baan Hmong Doi Pui village.  Both hikes will lead to the Buddha’s footprint and hopefully all participants will travel along the “Middle Path” while walking in the footstep(s) of the Lord Buddha.  The shorter hike will cover a distance of about 8km and should take no more than 4 hours.  The longer option is an additional 2 hour extension continuing north along the ridge with steep downhill and uphill climbs. Remember you are responsible for your own fitness, comfort, safety and actions on the hike, and are expected to keep in touch with the hike leader(s).  The shorter route is largely under forest canopy, on a shady and clear trail.  The going starts out easy but soon leads to a long uphill climb of moderate difficulty.  Hopefully the smoke will not obscure the view from the rocks on the ridge of Doi Pa Kha where the slower group will enjoy a snack and an opportunity to engage in some mindfulness meditation before returning to lunch in the village.

Hike leaders: Kurt H, Tom and Nina

If you want to join, be sure you have read the general advice on this website, as well as this particular post. If you still think the hike is for you then just turn up at the meeting place on the day and on time.

We cannot accommodate groups.

Meeting Place

We will meet in the car park of the Huay Kaeow Arboretum (just before the Zoo) at 07:50 for an 08:00 start.  From there we will carpool to the start point.

  • Head straight out from the moat 3.5 km towards Doi Suthep on Huay Kaeow Road.
  • The arboretum is on the left after the front entrance to Chiang Mai University and just before the entrance to the Zoo.
  • The car park of the arboretum is at the end of the park near the zoo.

Advice

Bring :

  • around 1.5-2 liters of water or more
  • good footwear, hat, rain wear, insect repellent and sun-block
  • 100 Baht contribution for fuel if you need lifts from Arboretum to the village and back. Car places are usually available, but cannot be guaranteed.
  • spare shirt, washing flannel, bag for boots etc to avoid in-car smelliness on return drive.
  • snacks/packed breakfast. Also money for lunch/drink in the village at the end.
  • energy, enthusiasm and a good sense of humour.

One Response

  1. Hello,

My friend Sarah and I will be travelling to the meeting point from the old city. Unfortunately we do not have a vehicle, will anyone be travelling that way and be able to pick us up or share a taxi?

    Thank you 🙂
