Continuing our series of high-level hikes to escape the seasonal heat and smoke, our indefatigable explorers have made a loop from the famous meditation temple of Wat Prabhat Si Roi (c.1,000m), including the peaks of Doi Pha Dam (1,366m) and Doi San Jon (Chon) at 1,425m (see map below)
The first hour will be quite steeply uphill and there is one section of very steep, slippery-dry-leaf downhill after the main peak. We hope to avoid too close a meeting with the magnificent 3+m king cobra we met on the exploration hike. Mostly shady trails with excellent cooling breezes from the W (on the exploration, at least).
By request, this is quite a short loop (6.5 kms, up/down 450m), allowing extra time for a longer lunch break, and even a short nap, but with an option to add a further 5-km gently-undulating (+/- 180m) ridge-top extension to a third (1,318m) peak for those who prefer to walk in the cool breeze rather than sleep/meditate in it. Total hike/snooze times probably 5 hours.
