18 hikers turned up at the meeting point and car-shared or motorcycled out to their own interpretations of the trailhead, at various speeds, finally coming together again in time to start hiking as a group just before 9am.
The main group of 15 surged ahead on the initial steep uphill but the three canny back-markers took a sneaky shortcut (after a brief unplanned detour and some minor forest fire-fighting) so waited nonchalantly half way down the steep descent after the highest peak for the long-cutters to ‘catch up’.
At this higher, cooler elevation, with gentle breezes, almost all the group decided to continue on the longer (walking-not-snoozing) option, although one (alleged) ‘morning-after’ hiker and two ‘couldn’t-wait-for-lunch’ hikers opted out of this addition.
Lunch was taken near the end point of the high ridge, after which we made good speed back to the loop and then down to the temple carpark. Mike hiked 10.2 kms, up/down 583m in 4 hrs 33 mins. Most did a little more; a few a little less.
We missed a few regular hikers, but welcomed back a few returners and a newbie cyclist-turned-hiker. Hope to see you all again. Any more photos or events to add?
