13 hiker met up at the meeting point and carpooled out to the start point, Huay Lan reservoir, a 30 minutes drive from Chiang Mai.
We started with walking along the reservoir’s concrete embankment. Despite it is now the rainy season, the water was very low. At the end of the embankment we climbed upon the ridge. The trail was very overgrown with high grass, but no sad faces for that. When we got higher up the grass disappeared but was instead replaced by ‘Rocky Mountain”. One of our hikers had a disagreement with a stone and got a bad cut in her forehead. Fortunately we had a nurse in the group who took care of the incident.
After a while we reached the high point of the ridge, Mon Phakchi, altitude 661 m. The weather was clear and we got wonderful views to the west and to the east.
Soon we started to hike down on the ridge towards the reservoir’s south end. The hike pace was a bit slowed down by our eager mushroom pickers. Up to now we have had a nice temperature for the hike, but back at low altitude the heat started to affect us. But soon we were back at our cars, and headed to San Kamphaeng Hot Springs for lunch. Here the mushroom pickers made a nice surprise, fresh mushroom soup. After the lunch some of the group continued to the mineral pool for relaxing.
