16 hikers assembled at the meeting point at the Esso gas station, which proved to be a very acceptable alternative to 700 Stadium, offering a large parking area, shop and facilities. The convoy out to FGS went off without a hitch and the group assembled in front of the village church for a group photo just before 09.00. Shortly after setting off we were delighted to be joined by two old friends who had managed to miss us on the way out and who can be identified by comparing the before and after group photos below.

For the second visit in a row Foggy Sea View had transformed itself into Fogless Sea View, but at least the haze in the valley below had dissipated somewhat since mid-week and continued to clear as the day wore on, so that by late morning we were treated to some magnificent panoramic views.

Notable events during the hike were a pleasant snack break in the sun-dappled surroundings of an abandoned resort, a meeting with a Paris Peacock butterfly, renewed acquaintance with a grand old tree and the sight of a palace in well-watered grounds that has suddenly popped up in the middle of nowhere.

Post-hike consultation suggests we covered 10km of distance, with 400m of total elevation gain in a time of 3 1/2 hours. This left plenty of time for lunch at the Thermadoi restaurant chatting, admiring the view and relaxing with each hiker’s favoured beverage.
