2020/11/15_Doi Lang Lo and Huai Lan to Mae Pha Han

We go to the Mae Pha Han reservoir and divide into two groups. The A group will do an established favourite for our more adventurous hikers, scaling the rocky peak of Doi Lang Lo. Group B will do a slightly gentler hike: after driving to the neighbouring Huai Lan reservoir in a minimal number of cars, we will hike back to Mae Pha Han over the forested hill from there.

Group A option: After one km of flat paths we will ascend a series of ridges. Near the summit we will climb up a small rock outcrop (10ft) which, although not difficult, has a drop off on one side so a guide rope will be provided. The eating of our packed lunches will be at a viewing spot on the other side of the summit with good views, weather permitting, of the CM countryside. We will then descend a series of ridges, ending in a relatively flat three km walk back to the starting point. The hike should take between four to five hours and should be considered fairly strenuous with a number of steep slopes. If you have uncertain balance or a fear of heights this hike Option A is not for you. Hikers remain responsible for their own safety and actions at all times.

Group B option: Since we are coordinating with the A group people for driving and lunch, we will aim to spend a similar length of time on our hike, i.e. about four and a half hours including breaks. We will be able to take things a little easier – but only a little. There will be some steady climbing in the forest, and some descent on rocky and gravelly slopes.

After the hiking the participants of both group options will stop off at a a local restaurant to enjoy refreshments together.

Hike leaders: SRR (Group A) and MM (Group B)

If you want to join: just turn up at the meeting place on the day, on time. We cannot accommodate groups. Seats in cars are usually available but cannot be guaranteed.

Meeting Place
Meeting Place: We will meet at 07:45 in front of Promenada Mall on R1317 (location marked “A” on the map below) and start on time at 08:00.  We head straight out along the R1317 and move on to Mae Pha Haen reservoir, where we park in an open space near the NE end of the dam.
